April 1854

& the sweat rolld off us quite free
but we arrivd at home in good time.
John had to make some light bread
before we could eat supper. I took
a short knapp before it was dower

Tu 18          Raind a little at intervals all
day. We went up the ditch to see
what went with all the water, we
found the leavy broe near the
head of the ditch & nearly all the
water running out, we was all day
mending & cleaning out & had no
dinner on to the bargin, but we
eat a harty supper whitch ans
werd evry purpose.

We 19         Rainy last kt & all of to day.
I mended three shovels & some
other things, before dinner & after
we went out to grounf sloosing &
got some wet. We now have water
enough to run a saw mill. After
supper wind blowing & a man singing
out, the men answerd him from
the other cabin. John has bakd
one loaf & another baking still anot
her to bake & then to bed.

April 1854

Th 20          snowing & raining Last kt & this
morning & continued most of the
day. We went up the ditch to tu
rn some of the water off as it was
raining * snowing so hard I did not
want the leavy to broke again, we
was up in time to save it. After
dinner we went out to ground sloo
sing but the snow & rain fell too
fast for us. We put for the cabin
built a good fire & mended up our shir
ts & I one sock, the other next kt.

Fr 21           At bed time stared were shining
out all around & some time in the
kt last, I was up & it was snowing ver
ry fast, this morning & past noon
before it cleard off it was near 1 ft
deep We dind & went out to ground
sloosing. I have darnd my other sock.
I am still looking for my wife out her
until I get another letter I then will know.

St 22           Cold Last kt & all of the day ice
syckles 1 ft lonhg hanging to my
cabin roof. We were ground sloos
ing in the water all day & wet.
