April 58

I changed my bed Wensd kt. &
slepd some better, though I dreamd
that John Hurst had came to this
country to see after his daughter
Lizzy he seemd verry mutch dissat

Th 22          after Bkt. as we do no cooking it
is easy got. we started up the di
tch to se if all was righ, we soon
found pleanty of water as we went
a long the ditch we cleand out &
cut some brush out of the way th
at had grown up since I left it
the floom is mutch out of order
though plenty of water is passing
still father up it has been cut & stop
pd again recently & near the head
it has broke down & a sluice box
been put in by someone it is not
large enough to carry the water so
it runs over, we stopd some of
the water out of the head of the ditch
went home & got diner, After we
was hunting for a place to prospect
Mack made up some dough for
Bred as neither of us had done it

April 58

Fr 23            we went over to the main ra
vine to prospect every pan, we put in
the day to verry little effect.

Sat 24         Root was up here last evening
& promised to be here soon this mor
ning, we went up the ditch & left
him. he overtook us, we exani
nd some diggins at the head of
the ditch to the left found gold
on bed rock & shovel sloos fork &
Root ax, and 3 of my sloos boxes
we went mutch up the ravine, but
too mutch snow to see the carac
ter of the ground, returnd home &
took dinner wend down to willow
ranch then to Nelson point & staid
till near Kt. , learnd there of quite
an excitement in honey lake val
ly. the Indians is gathering to fight
the citizens of that valley them take the mi
ners as they come to them, we went
home to cabin & as kt approches

my thoughts & feelings are anything but pleasant
as the distantance of 10 miles seperates wife & John from me
