August 55

F.S. Fox the present proprieter of
the Thompson house formally the
cook for Thompson, after dinner
I was invited in to Mrs ox
the mother of F.S. Fox. I talkd
with the old lady for moor than
one hour. with a read flannell
shirt out side my pants & an
old dirty cotton shirt no cravat
or socks on first acquaintance I
was treated quite cleaver indeed
dinner 1$. I excusd my self for
having occupide so mutch of her time
I read the genl Epistle of James –
clowdy thunderd & raind a little. p.m.

Mo 20         we was till noon setting our box
es & penstock & leading trougfs
after dinner we commensd a gain
to pipe down & wash dirt for gold &
got 9$ mutch moore than we expected for
a start, we have come to the conlution
to moove lower down, as we think
it will pay so we expect to do on tomorrow

August 55

Tu 21           i pd Duesler 2$ for plank our
shear, on Last saturday kt, we acco
rdingly moovd pen stock hose &
boxes & the rest our tools down hill
to where there has been a little mining
we got ready for work a short time
after dinner, but it was not long un
till our hose bursted the sewing, I was
some time mending, late we turnd on
the water again & did considerable was
hing, we clead up & got gold 1$ rather
low down. I dreamd of wife last kt
i thought I was in G. town ky –

We 22         we concluded to run a narrow
cut up, untill it pays better we let
the water on but there was not enou
ghf to do any good. John went up
to the reservoy & let out some. after
dinner I was calking the boxes that
brought in the water, nown as pikes
ditch, John & Rositer got gold 5$

Th 23          Again we are found at our
post, ready to dig out the shining
stuff, but our water is failing some
& at a time whn there is none to spare
