Jan 1854

Fr 6              Still cold last night water
in sterlings ditch froze up so as to
run over & fill up whole in the
blanket that we prospecting in.
We had some trouble to get out tools
out. We did no work today but get wood.

Sat 7           Compelled to get up before day to
rest my back, it dose ache no little
& when I am up it dose not hurt
mutch. Pleasant all day. We started
another hole farther down
the creek about 100 yrds.

Sun 8          Beautifull day. I was walking
about in my shirt sleeves &
the snow is nearly all over the
ground yet. I commends forst day
of 1854 to read Mathew & so on
today I closd reading XVI chapt.
of Luke. Of the unjust steward.

Mo 9           Warm & pleasamt & some
clowdy & snowd some, we
are on the bed rock in the 2nd
hole. Commensd drifting in &
we are getting small prospects.

Tu 10          Snowd a little this morning
but warm & pleasant the
ballance of the day. We dug
in to the bank about 5 ft. My
testament or the one I have
with me. S. John X Chapt.
& 27 verse & then one leaf out
& commences again in a part
of the 12 verse & 12 chapt. As fol
lowes “were come to feast”.

We 11         Beautifull & warm all day
some snow on the ground
in spots. We are at work in the
bank today but cant find mutch gold.
