Jan 55

Mon 8         rained a verry little all
day. Lloyd went down to the
point P.M. the express had
got in no letters he brought
up the N.Y. Herald of Dec
5th 54 that had the presidents
message. we did not work
my lesson 21rst chapt Luke

Tu 9             warm all day & sun shine
most of it clowdy & quite foggy
this morning 4 of us went up the
ditch & cleand out the snow whe
re it was not coverd with brush
& got the water running down
to where it is coverd &c

We 10         clear & warm having had
fire day & kt the rocks let &
set logs out side a fire place a fire on
yesterday that I did not
get it out so this morng I &

John took out one round
of logs & built up with rocks
John sent a letter to his ma
I one to Dave & to H.P. we went
up the ditch this evening the
water is nearly down to the
reservoy. The snow has settled
down verry mutch

Fr 11           shaw came home last kt
the weather is warm & pleas
ant. the snow melted off the
trees made it so heavy on the
ditch that some o fhte cross
timbers broke in two 7 let
the coviring down in the ditch
5 of us hoisting up & putting
new timbers to day not done

Fr 12            all 5 five at work putting
new timbers to hold up the brush
