Oct 1853

Sun 23        Tore down my bunk to get
materials for putting up one
in my cabin, tonigh I expect
to sleep on a good sack bottoms
bunk in the cabin, & Dave &
John may sleep on my straw
bed & on the floor. John has
taken of his kettle of cooked

Mo 24         Last night is the first that I did
not get the back ache since I left
New York. By sleeping on the ground
and other hard beds. Gold today 3$

Th 25          I slepd easy but got cold under
2 pair of blankets last night. Got
up twice & made a fire. No gold today.

Oct 1853

Dave & I went down to the point
I paid Thompson off for provisions
the first act—- $121.50
& then bought 3 plates old at that
the first queens ware of any kind that
Ive usd for months our furniture
being tin plates old & block tin oys
ter cans for fruit dishes & Butter
plates & with wooden forks & spoons
I am now sitting on the first
stool, whitch places me above the
ground or log of wood that I made
to night since midle of July past
neither have I heard a cock crow
since I was 42 years of age —-
Ice about our spring this morning

We 26          got to day with yesterday $150$
