Oct 54

I told John to take my gun
home, as we had no use for
him over it so kt came on
& with it rain. They took a pair
of my Blankets naild each eve
to poles & mad a kind of tent &
under we crept but our ft wou
ld get out sid in the rain —

Th 5             we are still pushing our
work a head, the weather unsettled

Fr 6              still going deeper in to the
mountains & no prospect yet

Sat 7           some of our company begin
to weaken rather gloomy

Su 8             early 5 of us started for
Betsy town many of the flks
had not Breckfasted when
we arrivd I the foremost we
ran apart of the way. I took
Dinner at varners 1$ old hows
did not go back again

Mo 9            all 7 of us was at our port

Oct 54

till noon one other concluded
to leave so we hold a counsell
& counted up up take costs &
each ones portion 6 1/4$ so we
all paid up & 6 of us to work —
still raining some to day

Tu 10           two holes had got down
to water all agreed it was no
use to go father as they could
not be dreand ordinarily, so
shaw said I must go home
& by grub for the winter & fix
up for mining at home so
I drew the nails out of my
Blankets rolld them up & tide
on my tin cup & off I started
for home, I stopd at Bradleys
give pat Hunley 25$ for at
tending to my law suit with
vaugh. I then went to Illinois
Ranch took dinner 1$ & then home
two moore left when I did &
only left Shaw Lawrence & Berryhill
