Sept 1853

half all knight. I was one of
the knight hands, clowdy &
raind some.

We 14         John & the 3 other hands went to
work after breckfast & I & the rest went
to bed clowdy all day. After supper
my turn came for the night, after
mid knight it raind on up till sun

Th 15          rise. It continued to rain off & on
all day. No work done today. I
took a good nap today & it raind
a good shower but my bunk did
not, leak so as to wet me.

Fr 16           All hands went to work today &
gave up knight work. We took out
210 1/2 $ I am making money faster than
any part of my life.

Sat. 17        Beautifull weather all hands
at work. Afternoon came. Vaughn

too other gents & Dave to the diffins
I was very glad to see him, he has
been sick & all the rest of H. P. concerm
he came up to recruit his health.
He brought a letter for John that you
rote on the 14th July giving an acco
ant of the great excitement of the
election of Breckenridge. Mind
you we all three sleep on mu 5 by 6
ft bunk very comfortable. We took
out today 63 1/2$ —

Sun 18        after breckfast we all went
down to N. Creek to lay in supply
of provisions. The mountains are very
steep & high yet we pack 50 lbs very easy
on our backs. What a gratification it
is to have an appetite to suit the times.
We came back to camp & took dinner
good light bread & tea beef stake pota
toes & onions boild beans & butter &c”
